Nursery

Nursery - February 2019 (21 images)

This term we have shared traditional tales with the children; they especially enjoyed Goldilocks and the 3 bears! The snow interrupted our learning, but that inspired us to use porridge oats as snow and to make ‘oat angels’. The children certainly went home ‘wearing their learning’ that day! The children’s experiences playing outside in the snow also led to a spontaneous mass mark-making session. We had so much fun outside in the snow, we forgot to take any photos! We have been encouraging mark-making in many different ways, including using water outside; and in a range of textures such as oats, shaving foam and paint. We have provided a range of activities to help children develop their finger dexterity and lacing or elastic band boards have helped children develop an understanding of shape and direction. The children developed an interest in cars and washing, so we made a car wash! The children learnt to work together as a team and share resources – and the cars and bikes were soon sparkling. We have also visited the space explorer dome this term. The children loved finding out about the stars and planets. We had our very own mini space dome in our classroom to help prepare the children for their visit and ensure they didn’t get anxious. The children found it very calming to lay inside a tent watching a light show and exploring colour, light and reflection. We have so enjoyed our learning this term!

Nursery (17 images)

The Nursery children are quickly settling in and enjoying their environment. They have made new friends and found out just how much there is to explore! They have been developing independence skills, including putting on socks and shoes, They have had a lot of fun reading stories, especially ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. They made models of bears and a tasty ‘bear sandwich’. They had a visit from ‘Bookstart bear’ at the end of term 1, when all the children were given a gift of a storybook to take home. Reading and enjoying books is really important for young children. They also enjoyed sharing their learning journeys with their parents and carers too. We are so proud of our new class!

Amazing Animals (26 images)

Following on from learning about dinosaurs, we have been learning about other amazing animals! We started by visiting the farm where we met Toby the owl and Mary the hen. We went on a scavenger hunt in the woods and built dens for some teddies. We have been reading the story of Farmer Duck and the Little Red Hen and we have made our own bread. We really enjoyed eating the results! We have been visited by one of our parents and her chicks and tortoises too! You can’t be squeamish as a Nursery class teacher; we found a frog, a lizard and lots of snails and spiders in our nursery garden; which, of course, we have to hold so the children could have a closer look.
