Cooperative Trust

 hands

Windwhistle Primary School began an exciting new venture by becoming part of the Weston-super-Mare Education Cooperative Trust from September 2013. This Trust includes five schools: Bournville Primary School, Milton Park Primary School, Oldmixon Primary School, Walliscote Primary School and Windwhistle Primary School.

We recently held a Celebration Event to commerate the first year of the Trust. Please see the Trust website for more about what we do and to see photographs of the event. You can also view the Trust leaflet here: WSMTrustleaflet

Cooperatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, solidarity and equity.  Co-operative members believe in their ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. The ethos and values of all five schools align very well with the values and principles of the Co-operative Movement.

The Co-operative Trust enables those who are involved in each of the schools such as parents, carers, staff, pupils and members of the wider community to become involved in the future of the School.  The Trust will set up a Members’ Forum to represent the views of all members.  The school still remains part of the Local Authority ‘family’.

Our focus is to accelerate and sustain progress towards higher achievement, narrowing the gap between local and national attainment and further raising aspirations across all the learning communities which the five schools serve.

We have business partners to help us achieve our aims; these are currently Backwell School, the Cooperative Group, North Somerset Council, Sidcot School, the Credit Union, Weston Football Club, Famlink and Wilmott Dixon.  With their support we aim to improve the life chances of every pupil in the Trust by developing sustainable, successful partnerships throughout the Trust (and its associated local schools) in a wide range of carefully designed social and educational activities which are tailored to further raise aspirations and make meaningful contributions to the development of every individual pupil.

Would you like to become a member of the Trust? You can fill out a form in school, or print one from here: Trust Membership Leaflet
